2017 Drag Education Events

This year, the Queer Student Commission will be leading up to our 2017 Drag Show (May 26th 7:30-9:30pm in the HUB North Ballroom) with a series of Drag Education Events. At each event, attendees will be taught by talented performers on various aspects of drag, including makeup, hair, and design, as well as cultural education. If you have any questions, please e-mail the director at asuwqsc@uw.edu.

Event One: Drag Skills

Early starter? Come to our very first Drag Education event!

Hosted on Friday, May 12, 2017, this event will be between 12:00-3pm in HUB 340. This event will focus on the how-to of drag, by a longtime performer. Highly suggested for first timers, intermediate performers looking for tips, and longtime drag royalty looking for another perspective.

Event Two: Drag Skills

Looking for an event at an accessible time? Look no further!

Hosted on Saturday, May 20th, the event will run from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM in HUB 214. This event will be a followup on the how-to of drag, with a different performer. Super interested? Come to both! Held at an accessible time, we hope that this will allow folks who are working or have general time requirements to take part and have fun!

Event Three: Drag Culture

Not interested in performing (at the moment)? Come and learn!

Hosted on Wednesday, May 24th, the event will run from 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM in HUB 340. This event will focus on the longtime histories and culture of drag, and right before the event. Intended for those who want to learn the rich and interconnected history of drag as an art form of resistance, this event is highly suggested for those new to the world of drag.

Please note: The ASUW QSC does our best to meet any and all accommodation needs. There will be a gender neutral restroom available for each of the events, located on the HUB 3rd floor, elevator access, and we ask that attendees avoid strong scents or smells to help our friends with chemical sensitivities. If you have any concerns or requests for accessibility, please reach out to asuwqsc@uw.edu.
